Hydrogen: A Gateway to Health 062 Hydrogen Inhalation — How Hydrogen Enters Through the Lungs

Hello. In the previous column, I introduced several ways to incorporate hydrogen into daily life: inhaling it, drinking hydrogen water, enjoying a hydrogen bath, or using hydrogen supplements. Each method has a different route into the body.

This time, I would like to focus on the method I introduce most often: hydrogen inhalation.

Hydrogen inhalation involves breathing molecular hydrogen gas, commonly through a nasal cannula. Once inhaled, hydrogen travels into the lungs and reaches the alveoli, the tiny air sacs where gases are exchanged. From there, hydrogen can diffuse across the pulmonary capillaries into the bloodstream and then travel through the pulmonary circulation and heart before entering the body’s systemic circulation.

Most of us rarely think about the remarkable process taking place every time we breathe. The lungs are designed to transfer gases efficiently between the air and the bloodstream, and hydrogen inhalation uses the lungs as its primary entry point.

Molecular hydrogen is extremely small, and researchers continue to study its unique physical and biological properties.

At my salon, first-time hydrogen inhalation clients often share impressions such as, “My body felt warm,” “I felt very relaxed,” or “I felt refreshed afterward.” Of course, everyone experiences hydrogen differently, and these personal impressions should not be interpreted as evidence of a medical effect.

One appealing feature of hydrogen inhalation is that you can simply relax during a session. Some clients rest quietly, read a book, or combine it with other wellness time. Those who have a hydrogen inhalation machine at home often incorporate sessions according to their own daily schedule.

Hydrogen inhalation devices also vary considerably in hydrogen output, flow rate, design, and how they are intended to be used. I personally use several types of hydrogen equipment, and when someone is considering a hydrogen machine for home use, I prefer to explain the available options based on their lifestyle and intended use.

Trying hydrogen inhalation firsthand may be a helpful first step before deciding whether it is something you would like to incorporate more regularly.

In the next column, I will introduce hydrogen water and explain how dissolved molecular hydrogen travels through the body after we drink it.

If you are interested in booking a hydrogen inhalation experience or learning more about hydrogen inhalation machines for home use, please feel free to contact us.

I hope that hydrogen may continue to become one gentle option that fits naturally into everyday life.
