Hello. This time, I will share the conversation I had with the developer of the perilla-derived hydrogen supplement, whom I met during my stay in Japan, regarding the highly discussed “NMN” and “supplements combining hydrogen and NMN.”
Hydrogen is expected to support the conditioning of the cellular environment by suppressing oxidative stress. NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide), on the other hand, is attracting attention as a component that is converted into the coenzyme NAD⁺ in the body and aids cellular energy metabolism. By combining these, a new concept of supplement was created, aiming to condition the energy environment while mitigating oxidative damage.
During the discussion, I was shown a report on a mouse experiment conducted by Dr. David Sinclair of Harvard University regarding the “synergistic effect of hydrogen and NMN.” The experiment included measurements of sirtuin protein levels in endothelial cells, angiogenesis (new blood vessel formation), and endurance, and showed a higher improvement effect when hydrogen and NMN were used in combination compared to when used individually. These data, accompanying the theory, made the reliability and future potential of the research even more tangible.
What was additionally impressive was the developer’s story of being 90 years old and having a weekly habit of running three kilometers. Actually witnessing his youthful posture and clear articulation strongly suggested that the research content was not mere armchair theory but was substantiated through daily practice.
While NMN is attracting attention on its own, the idea of supporting energy metabolism efficiently while suppressing oxidative stress by combining it with hydrogen is very appealing. This approach, aiming for support at the cellular level, will likely continue to garner increasing attention from the perspective of health maintenance and aging care. After hearing this story, I myself couldn’t help but hold high expectations for the further possibilities that combining hydrogen with other components might bring.
