In Episode 24, I discussed how hydrogen may relate to skin hydration.
In this blog, I would like to first explore why skin tends to become dry during winter, and how everyday environments can influence skin condition.
How Winter Affects Skin
During winter, not only does the temperature drop,
but humidity levels also decrease significantly.
In places like New York City,
the air tends to be dry to begin with, and indoor heating can reduce humidity even further.
As a result, many people experience:
- dry or rough skin
• tightness
• increased sensitivity
The Importance of the Skin Barrier
The skin has a natural barrier that helps protect it from external factors.
When this barrier functions well:
- moisture is retained
• external irritation is reduced
However, when dryness increases, this barrier may weaken,
making it easier for moisture to escape and for irritation to occur.
Why Hydrogen Is Being Discussed
Hydrogen is the smallest molecule in nature and is often discussed in relation to maintaining the body’s internal balance.
Because of its association with oxidative stress in research,
it has also gained attention from the perspective of supporting skin conditions.
These findings are still being studied and should not be interpreted as medical claims.
However, hydrogen is increasingly being incorporated into everyday self-care routines.
