In the previous blog (21-1), we discussed how sleep plays an essential role in the body’s recovery and overall well-being.
In this section, I would like to explore the connection between sleep quality and the autonomic nervous system, which strongly influences how easily we fall asleep and how deeply we rest.

 

The Role of the Autonomic Nervous System

The autonomic nervous system regulates many essential body functions, including:

  • heart rate
    • body temperature
    • circulation
    • breathing

It has two main components:

Sympathetic nervous system – the active or alert state
Parasympathetic nervous system – the relaxed or restorative state

At night, the parasympathetic system usually becomes dominant, helping the body naturally transition into sleep.

 

Stress and Its Impact on Sleep

When stress continues for long periods, the sympathetic nervous system may remain active.
This can make it difficult for the body to fully relax.

As a result, people may experience:

  • difficulty falling asleep
    • lighter sleep
    • waking up during the night

For this reason, creating an evening routine that allows the body to relax is often considered helpful for improving sleep quality.

 

Hydrogen as Part of a Relaxation Routine

Some people incorporate hydrogen into their evening self-care routines.

For example:

  • hydrogen inhalation
    • hydrogen baths
    • hydrogen water before bedtime

These practices may help create a calm moment before sleep.

Of course, this is not a medical claim, but rather an example of how hydrogen can be included as part of a relaxation routine.

Improving sleep quality often begins with helping the body shift into a relaxed state.
