What I Couldn’t Fully Cover in the Column
In Episode 17 of the column, I introduced the relationship between hydrogen and anti-aging, focusing mainly on the skin and cellular perspective.
In this blog, I would like to take a step back and look more carefully at what aging really means, and why the idea of “protecting and maintaining balance” is so important in everyday anti-aging care.

Aging Is Not Something to “Avoid,” but Something to Live With
Aging is a natural process that comes to everyone.
As the years go by, we may notice changes such as less skin firmness, slower recovery from fatigue, or needing more time to rest and recharge.
What feels important is not trying to “stop” aging, but rather
creating an environment where damage does not easily accumulate and where the body can maintain its balance more gently.
One of the key perspectives here is how we relate to what is often called “oxidative stress.”

The Relationship Between Aging and Oxidative Stress
Inside our bodies, reactive oxygen species are produced every day through normal metabolism, stress, sunlight, and environmental factors.
This is a natural process. However, when this balance is disturbed and oxidative stress increases too much, it may place a greater burden on cells.
Over time, this accumulated burden can be associated with what we experience as “faster aging” or “loss of resilience.”
From an anti-aging perspective, the goal is not to add more and more things, but rather
to reduce the factors that make it easier for damage to build up and to support a calmer internal environment.

Why Hydrogen Is Discussed in the Context of Anti-Aging
Hydrogen has been studied in relation to oxidative stress in the body, and from this viewpoint, it is sometimes described as a supportive presence that may help create an internal environment where cells are less exposed to excessive stress.
Hydrogen does not “make us younger.”
Rather, it is often talked about as something that may help
support the body in slowing down factors that can accelerate visible or felt aging by gently helping to maintain balance.

Conclusion (17-1)
Anti-aging is not about fighting against time.
It is more about supporting the body so it does not carry unnecessary burdens and can adapt gently to change.
Hydrogen does not stop aging, but it may serve as one of the everyday options to help create a calmer, more balanced internal environment.
In that sense, it can be a gentle and realistic approach to caring for ourselves as we grow older.
