In my previous article on “Diabetes,” I received many expressions of surprise and hope from pet owners regarding the visible changes in blood sugar levels. Hearing comments like, “I’m glad I learned about options other than insulin,” is incredibly rewarding for a salesperson.
This time, I’ll be tackling a topic that’s the heaviest and most unavoidable for everyone, a theme that was once synonymous with “despair.” That is, “coexisting with cancer (tumors).”
To all of you whose minds went blank that day when you heard the diagnosis in the veterinary clinic: I’ll passionately explain how a tiny molecule like hydrogen can make the precious time you have left shine and protect your QOL (Quality of Life)!
- The “Oxidation Storm” Unleashed by Cancer Cells
Cancer (malignant tumors) is the leading cause of death in dogs and cats in Japan and the United States. While this can be seen as a consequence of increased lifespan due to medical advancements, cancer cells are incredibly voracious, stealing energy from normal cells and repeatedly proliferating.
During this proliferation process, cancer cells release massive amounts of reactive oxygen species, creating a veritable “oxidation storm” within the body. This oxidative stress damages even normal tissues, becoming a major factor in the severe pain, loss of appetite, and extreme weakness (cachexia) characteristic of terminal cancer.
- Why Hydrogen Contributes to “QOL” Rather Than “Life Extension”
Let me state this clearly, without fear of misunderstanding: hydrogen is not a “magic drug” that will eliminate cancer. However, it is undoubtedly a “top-notch supporter” based on scientific evidence.
Hydrogen’s greatest characteristic, its “selective antioxidant effect,” targets only the “harmful reactive oxygen species (hydroxyl radicals)” that cancer cells use as weapons, converting them into water.
By calming the “oxidation storm” within the body, it slows the progression of cancer itself and, most importantly, “alleviates pain and suffering.” This is the role that hydrogen is most expected to play in maintaining quality of life.
- Challenging the high hurdle of “side effects” of anticancer drugs
In cancer treatment, the side effects of anticancer drugs are a major concern for many pet owners. “I want to treat my pet, but I don’t want to see them suffer from vomiting and diarrhea…” This is the most common and heartfelt concern we hear from our sales staff.
In fact, many side effects from anticancer drugs (such as nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity) are caused by the drugs damaging the mitochondria of normal cells and generating reactive oxygen species. Research has reported some dream-like data showing that combining hydrogen with anticancer drug treatment suppresses damage to normal cells without interfering with the effects of the anticancer drug itself. When we receive reports such as, “Since starting hydrogen therapy, my pet’s post-chemotherapy lethargy has decreased, and it’s started eating again,” we are once again convinced of the incredible protective power of hydrogen.

Here are some specific ways to use hydrogen at home for your partner fighting cancer.
- High-Concentration Hydrogen Inhalation (Rescue Inhalation): When breathing is labored or there is pain, inhaling hydrogen while sleeping is the most efficient method. Hydrogen, which reaches the entire body via the bloodstream, suppresses inflammation, regulates the autonomic nervous system, and induces deep sleep.
- Hydration with Hydrogen Water: Water is essential for eliminating toxins from the body. Tasteless and odorless hydrogen water is relatively easy for pets with reduced appetite to drink and helps with detoxification at the cellular level.
- Hydrogen Mist on the Affected Area: If you are concerned about the odor or inflammation of a self-ruptured tumor, spray fresh hydrogen water in a mist. Since care can be provided without direct contact, the burden on your pet is minimized. 5. Supporting “Being Yourself Until the Last Day”
We cannot be with our beloved partners “forever.” However, “We want them to wag their tails and look at the faces of their beloved owners until their last day.” That is the wish of us pet owners, and of me as a salesperson.
Hydrogen care is not a painful life-prolonging treatment, but a “medical approach to creating peaceful moments.” When scientific evidence and your deep love come together, the days spent living with cancer will surely transform from mere despair into warm and comforting times.

I know how it feels like time stops the moment you are told, “It’s cancer.” But please don’t give up. Hydrogen can be a “small light” that shines into that darkness. Don’t be afraid of side effects, and prioritize the “comfort” of this moment. That peaceful sleeping face is the greatest gift that hydrogen can give you.
