🌈Vol. 15: Heart Disease Common in Small Dogs: An Approach to Easing the Burden on the Circulatory System

Hello, I am Jun, a health industry salesman who faces dog and cat lovers across Japan every day! How was the previous article on the “liver”? How hydrogen responds to the faint SOS signals sent by the silent organ. The smiles of owners surprised by numerical improvements are the best reward for me.

Now, this time, I will focus on “heart disease,” which is perhaps the most shocking and pressing word for owners of small dogs (Chihuahuas, Toy Poodles, Cavaliers, etc.) that are highly popular due to housing situations in urban areas like Kanto and Kansai. To all of you who have spent anxious nights since that day at the animal hospital when you were told, “There is a heart murmur.” I will explain with 1,600 characters of passion how the molecule called hydrogen healthily supports your dog’s “unstoppable heartbeat”!

  1. The Unavoidable “Fate” and the Heart’s Cry

Heart disease, such as “mitral regurgitation,” is overwhelmingly common among small dogs, especially those reaching their senior years. This is a disease where the valves governing the heart’s pump function do not close properly, causing blood to flow backward. When blood flows backward, the heart overworks itself by trying to move more strongly and faster to send blood throughout the body. If this “overtime work” continues, the heart gradually enlarges and becomes exhausted. What is even more terrifying is the insufficient oxygen supply to the entire body (hypoxia). When oxygen becomes scarce, incomplete combustion occurs in each cell of the body, and bad reactive oxygen species (hydroxyl radicals) are generated explosively. The suffering of heart disease is caused not only by the physical pump failure but also by the “fatigue” and “pain” of the entire body being exposed to oxidative damage.

  1. The Mechanism by Which Hydrogen Protects the “Heart Engine”

The role played by hydrogen here is extremely multifaceted. First, hydrogen protects the myocardial cells (heart muscle cells) themselves from oxidative stress. Myocardial cells, which move incessantly, have a very high number of mitochondria and are therefore susceptible to damage from reactive oxygen species. By targeting bad reactive oxygen species and turning them into water, hydrogen prevents the deterioration of myocardial cells and maintains energy efficiency as a pump. Furthermore, latest research suggests that hydrogen may have an “auxiliary effect on vasodilation.” As blood vessels expand flexibly, the resistance (afterload) when the heart pumps out blood decreases, allowing the heart to deliver blood to the entire body with less force. This means “physically lightening” the load placed on the engine called the heart.

  1. Reports of “Nighttime Peace” Heard in the Sales Field

There is a report I receive most frequently from owners of dogs with heart disease at my sales destinations. It is the voice saying, “The nighttime coughing has settled down, and they can sleep soundly.” As heart disease progresses, the enlarged heart presses against the trachea, or water tends to accumulate in the lungs (pulmonary edema), causing severe coughing, especially at night or dawn. In households that have incorporated hydrogen inhalation into their daily routine, inflammation is calmed and breathing becomes easier, allowing the dog itself to fall into a deep sleep. “Being able to sleep” is the greatest treatment for recovering physical strength. As a salesman, there is no moment I feel better about doing this job than when I can see the sleeping face of a dog whose breathing has become calm.

  1. The “Strongest Tag Team” with Medication

What I do not want you to misunderstand here is that hydrogen is not a “substitute for heart medicine.” Heart medications (cardiotonics, diuretics, vasodilators) are indispensable for physically controlling the movement of the heart. The role of hydrogen is to “maximize the effectiveness of those medicines and care for side effects.” For example, diuretics tend to place a burden on the kidneys, but as mentioned in Vol. 3, hydrogen is also good at protecting the kidneys. Furthermore, while regulating blood flow with heart medication, one can remove oxidative damage from cells throughout the body with hydrogen. This “simultaneous approach from inside and out” is the ideal form in modern veterinary medicine.

  1. The “Future of Wagging Tails” That Salesman Jun Wants to Convey

When diagnosed with heart disease, many owners get a sad look on their faces, becoming conscious of “no longer being able to play vigorously” or “the parting that will come someday.” But what a dog wants most is the owner’s smile. By introducing hydrogen care, coughing decreases and they can enjoy walks again. I have seen countless cases where such “ordinary daily life” was regained. A “complete cure” for heart disease may be difficult. However, by borrowing the power of science called hydrogen, it is fully possible to “get along well with the disease and spend time energetically until the end of one’s natural life.”

Jun’s Note

Caring for heart disease is like a “marathon.” Please do not rush and deliver hydrogen steadily every day. The hydrogen inhaled today creates a powerful heartbeat for tomorrow. So that when you place your ear against your dog’s chest, that heartbeat is even a little bit calmer. We will continue to support everyone’s “family time” with the power of hydrogen!

In Vol. 15, I conveyed the deep bond between heart disease and hydrogen. I would be happy if your anxiety turns into hope even a little. Next time (Vol. 16) is a “silent disease” brought about by the modern era of gluttony. “Modern Disease: Pet Diabetes: Improving Insulin Sensitivity and Glucose Metabolism.” I will explain in detail a new approach using hydrogen that is not just about dietary restrictions. Please look forward to it!
