Hello! I’m Jun, a health industry salesperson who has been running forward as someone fascinated by the potential of hydrogen. We have reached the 10th installment of this grand 50-part series, our first major milestone. While we have looked at specific diseases and applications for various animal species so far, let’s broaden our perspective significantly this time. “Isn’t hydrogen just a fad in parts of Japan?” For those of you with such doubts, the reality is actually the opposite. Today, hydrogen medicine has leapt out of Japan and is being enthusiastically welcomed as the “next-generation standard” in medical and animal care settings worldwide. In this 10th installment, I will report on the current state of hydrogen research that is sweeping the globe!
- Japan-born, World Standard: A History of “Trust” Since 2007
What I want to emphasize once again is that hydrogen medicine is a science that Japan can proudly present to the world. A paper published in Japan in 2007 served as the spark, and now universities and research institutions worldwide—including the U.S., China, and Europe—are chasing the potential of hydrogen. Currently, the number of published academic papers exceeds several thousand, covering both humans and animals. The reason I can confidently propose products at sales sites is that this overwhelming accumulation of “evidence (scientific basis)” has become a common global language.
- China: “Hydrogen Medicine” as a National Project
One of the countries where hydrogen research is currently most vigorous is China. In China, clinical application of hydrogen is being advanced on a national scale, and many hospitals are incorporating hydrogen inhalation, particularly in the fields of respiratory diseases and rehabilitation. In the field of veterinary medicine as well, data is being accumulated at a staggering speed in large-scale research facilities regarding how hydrogen contributes to the prevention of infectious diseases in livestock and intractable diseases in pets. This “power of execution” is further accelerating the speed of hydrogen utilization worldwide.
- USA & Europe: From Top Athletes to Veterinary Hospitals
In the West, hydrogen is being adopted with a free-thinking approach.
The United States: Following the trend of professional athletes adopting hydrogen for recovery, it is garnering attention as high-performance pet care equipment. It is particularly penetrating among wealthy owners aiming for the longevity of their dogs within the context of “biohacking” (optimizing the body through science).
Europe: Centered in countries like Germany and France, hydrogen is widely accepted as part of “holistic therapy” to draw out the natural healing power of animals, as well as for the care of racehorses as discussed in Vol. 4.
- The Front Lines of Veterinary Medicine: Fusion with “Standard Treatment”
What veterinarians around the world are currently focusing on is not “replacing” conventional drug therapy with hydrogen, but “fusing” them. “Reducing side effects,” “supporting the efficacy of medicine,” and “speeding up post-operative recovery.” These specific benefits are being proven one after another in clinical settings. Presentations on hydrogen are now being made at the world’s largest veterinary conferences, and hydrogen is no longer recognized as an “alternative therapy” but as “modern care” backed by science.
- Salesman Jun’s Vision for the Next 10 Years
Through the first 10 installments of this series, I have conveyed that “hydrogen is a supporter that sustains life from its very roots.” The story of this tiny molecule born in Japan has now grown into a grand narrative that saves and brightens the lives of animals all over the world. As someone involved in the health industry, I want to make this wonderful technology more and more accessible. That desire grows stronger with every installment.

The reason researchers worldwide are focusing on hydrogen is its “simplicity” and “power.” Beyond difficult logic, the sight of animals becoming energetic is the greatest proof of all.
