— The Meaning of “Putting Your Own Skin in the Game” —
One of the most common questions we receive from people interested in hydrogen devices is this:
“Is it better to buy, or should I start with renting?”
There are many reasonable factors to consider—price, lifestyle, frequency of use—but today, I’d like to explore this question from a slightly different perspective.
What Does It Mean to “Put Your Own Skin in the Game”?
Some time ago, I came across a phrase that deeply resonated with me:
“Put your own money on the line.”
When I opened the drawer of my own memories and reflected on what this phrase truly means, my interpretation became this:
If a person is unwilling to pay an appropriate cost—even for something that appears to be a loss at first—they often end up gaining nothing at all.
This idea struck me then, and it still does now.
Why? Because I’ve always been someone who finds it difficult to be easily moved or deeply impressed by things. Looking back, I suspect that this lack of emotional response often came from not truly “investing” myself—financially, emotionally, or physically—into what I was doing.
What We Pay For Becomes “Ours”
In my own experience, the moments when I did feel genuine satisfaction or even inspiration were always tied to situations where I had:
- Invested my own time
- Spent real effort
- Paid some kind of personal cost
Previously, I thought the reason was simply “commitment” or “working hard.”
But now I believe the deeper truth is this:
When we offer our time, energy, or money and actively engage with something, it transforms into something we truly care about. Only then do we receive value—sometimes equal to, and sometimes greater than, what we paid.
In that sense, what matters is not reckless dedication, but paying an appropriate cost. Not pushing ourselves to the brink, but accepting a small, conscious sacrifice that leads to meaningful change.
How This Relates to Hydrogen Devices
This way of thinking applies very clearly to hydrogen devices.
At our company, we have customers who choose to purchase a hydrogen device and others who prefer to rent. Over time, we’ve noticed a consistent difference in outcomes.
When we ask buyers how they feel afterward, many respond confidently:
- “It’s really good.”
- “I can clearly feel the improvement.”
However, when we ask renters the same question, the answer is often more vague:
- “I think it might be working…”
- “I’m not entirely sure.”
Of course, placebo effects may play a role—but there’s more to it than that.
Usage Habits Make a Real Difference
Customers who purchase their device tend to:
- Use it daily
- Perform regular cleaning and maintenance
On the other hand, rental users are more likely to:
- Use it only occasionally
- Skip maintenance because it feels inconvenient
As a result, the device’s performance may decline, leading them to feel that it’s “not effective,” which causes even less usage. A negative cycle forms.
Even Free Devices Are Often Neglected
We’ve also seen this with devices given as gifts.
In one case, a customer received a hydrogen inhalation device as a present. After two months, they stopped using it almost entirely due to a busy schedule. When maintenance was finally performed, it took nearly a full week to restore proper hydrogen output.
This isn’t unusual. Items that are borrowed or given for free often drop in priority, even if their potential value is high.
A Different Perspective: Energy and Ownership
There is also a more spiritual way to look at this.
Some believe that objects carry the “energy” of previous owners. Rental devices, by nature, have a history. Often, they were returned by someone who decided, “This isn’t for me,” or “I didn’t feel the benefits.”
In that sense, many rental units come back without positive intention or attachment. While this may not resonate with everyone, it’s an interesting perspective to consider.

So… Buy or Rent?
I don’t believe that purchasing is always the right answer for everyone. Renting can be a reasonable first step for those who simply want to try.
However, if your goal is to:
- Seriously improve your condition
- Make hydrogen therapy part of your daily routine
- Commit to long-term use
Then purchasing often leads to far better results.
When you invest your own money, the device stops being “something you’re testing” and becomes part of your life.
Ultimately, the question isn’t just whether you should buy or rent.
It’s what you hope to gain—and how willing you are to truly engage in that journey.
*At this time, there is no rental option in the U.S., but it should be available in the near future.
