In previous installments, I have discussed how hydrogen is effective for canine dermatitis, feline kidney disease, and even for racehorses and cattle. When I do, cautious owners and professionals in the field almost always ask me this:
“If it’s that effective, I’m actually a bit scared of the side effects… Is it truly safe?”
As a salesperson, I am actually happiest when I receive this question. This is because the greatest strength of hydrogen lies in its “overwhelming safety.” For this 8th installment, I will dig deep into the reasons why researchers confidently declare it has “zero side effects!”
- To Begin With, There Is No Place for “Toxicity”
Drugs almost always have side effects. This is because when a drug acts on a specific receptor, it also affects areas other than the target. Additionally, it is not uncommon for the process of metabolizing a drug to place a burden (toxicity) on the liver or kidneys.
However, hydrogen (H2) is different. Hydrogen is not a “drug” that binds to a specific receptor; it is more like an “element” that balances the oxidative state within cells. Any excess hydrogen that does not react within the body naturally leaves the body through the breath within a few dozen minutes. “It doesn’t accumulate, it doesn’t remain, and it doesn’t damage.” This is the basic nature of hydrogen.
- A Proven Track Record as a “Food Additive” Recognized by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare
In fact, hydrogen is recognized as a “food additive” in Japan. It has cleared the same safety standards as the food you consume daily.
Furthermore, in the world of diving, technology has existed for decades for “hydrogen-mixed deep-sea diving gas,” where divers dive deep while inhaling high concentrations of hydrogen. If hydrogen were toxic, divers inhaling large amounts of it under high pressure would not remain safe. In its long history, there hasn’t been a single reported case of health damage caused by hydrogen itself.
- The Miracle of Turning into “Water” by Eliminating Only the Bad Guys
As I touched upon in Vol. 1, the reaction (chemical reaction) of hydrogen is extremely simple and smart.
It reacts only when it encounters the hydroxyl radical ($\cdot$OH), which is the root of all evil in the body, and changes into simple “water.”
H2 + 2OH → 2H2O
There are many powerful antioxidants in the world, but some of them become “oxides (waste)” themselves after reacting. However, the only waste hydrogen produces is “water.” There is no other reaction as clean as this for the body.
- Why Combined Use with Medication is “Actually Recommended”
I often receive consultations asking, “My pet is currently receiving medicine from the hospital; is it okay to use hydrogen alongside it?” and the answer is “Yes.”
Hydrogen does not interfere with the metabolism of drugs. On the contrary, because hydrogen mitigates “oxidative stress”—which is the cause of side effects for many drugs—it allows for an ideal combination where it suppresses the disadvantages of the medicine while supporting its benefits.
In fact, research is progressing on using hydrogen alongside treatment for animals undergoing chemotherapy to ease loss of appetite and fatigue, making it easier to complete the treatment.
- The Only “Caution” Salesman Jun Gives
Hydrogen itself is safe, but as a salesperson, there is one point I urge caution on: “product quality.”
Fraudulent products that contain no hydrogen, or poor-quality equipment that mixes in impurities (such as ozone or metal powder) during the generation process. These risks are not “side effects of hydrogen” but “product defects.”
Because this is something you use for your precious partner, I want you to choose products based on solid evidence, recommended by us researchers and experts. That is the primary reason I am writing this blog.

When I am selling, I tell people that “hydrogen is subtraction care.” Instead of forcing a change in the body by adding something, it subtracts unnecessary oxidative dirt to restore the original life force.
